Feeling Better, Now

I'd look like Death warmed over, if I could just manage to warm over...

For those of you fortunate enough to NOT encounter me over the past two weeks, as I fought my way through a series of horrific colds, fevers, sore/scratchy throats etc... here's a little glimpse at what you missed. Bleah.

KillBill Foldem Playset

All right, I've gone too long between postings, so here's an oldie.

I'm not all that happy with this one anymore, but people still seem to respond pretty well to it.

Anyway, hope somebody likes it.

(my apologies for the poorly-focused digi-photos.)

LATE! Illustration (last) Friday -- CATS

All right, sadly, I was too late for Illustration Friday's utterly unfair FRIDAY deadline. Next time, I'll have to try harder, I suppose.

Anyway, here's a new foldem. It's a cat.

For those to whom this is not, in and of itself, enough excitement... if you push down the head, you'll get a second expression for your troubles.

Like so:

Illustration Friday - E IS FOR...

Ernie, of course!

He probably taught a huge percentage of us the letter E, in the first place.

More TTC folks

A couple more brushpen sketches from the TTC.

Many thanks to Bobby Chiu for the invitation to his Subway Sketch Group.

We narrowly missed meeting one another at the Junction Arts Festival last fall. (I did, however, pick up your fantastic Girl Sketches book, and talked to your friend for a few minutes) I'm going to do my best to catch a ride with you guys sometime in January.

I tend to save Sundays to spend with my little girl, so I don't usually have them to spare, but I would like the opportunity to meet you and your cronies, so I'll see if I can swing it.

Daddy's Little Girl

From my sketchbook, a couple of quick drawings of my daughter Persephone asleep in her highchair (the suspender-looking things are the highchair straps).

Absent from these drawings:
all of the rice in which she had covered herself.

Elderly Gentleman on the TTC

Happy Holidays to All,

Here's a grinchy fellow who doesn't seem to enjoy the subway.

Turning on the Charm

A half a year ago, as a favor to some old friends, I joined a merry band of misfits on the following task.

The mission:
Update an old and highly recognizable favorite.

The specs:
Make it more mature. (edgy)
More it more graphic.
Try to incorporate more "cool" magical elements, like that cool Harry Potter, which all the kids seem to like these days.

The result:
Maybe we shouldn't throw away 40 years of brand equity on a poorly thought-out attempt to cash in on a trendy fad. Nevermind, we'll stick with what we have.

MiniME

Here is a little foldem self-caricature.
The design has been voodoo-proofed, so let's nobody get any ideas, huh?

Illustration Friday - FRESH

Well, here it is! My first entry for Illustration Friday, and the first post that has anything at all to do with the title of the blog.

I've now added a photo of the assembled Foldem as a guide for anybody who'd like to try their hand at building the thing.

Anyway, hope somebody out there digs it.

As soon as I can, I will post a basic how-to on putting these things together.

UPDATE: Who am I kidding? I will never post a how-to. Good luck, though!

Here's another angle:

1st Posting

Well, it looks like I'm late to the party once again, but better late than lamented.

I see you guys have eaten all the Frito-Pie, and some sorry schmuck went and dropped his cigarette butt into the punchbowl. I know I must've missed the TimeWarp, but at least they haven't played Stairway to Heaven yet. Hopefully I'll be able to get one slow-dance in before the lights come up and they start putting away the folding chairs.

This blog will concern itself more with drawings than with talkings, though I can't promise I'll keep my yap shut all of the time. Here's an old illustration, until I get my scanner up and running. It's that crime-solvingest of man-eating fish... JabberJaw!
